Gotcha! It appears that modern browsers apply an implict “display:inline” to new #HTML5 structural elements. Hence then lack of the margins.

Cannot figure out why both Safari and Firefox don’t apply margins nor backgrounds to #HTML5 elements like <nav> or <footer>. Any idea?
